Faster reepitelialization in burn wounds ETRS-WHS abstract

Regenics today annonces a positive result for its wound healing technology using salmon roe extracts to treat 2nd degree burn wounds in human skin

Regenics AS, Oslo, Medibiome AB, Sweden  and SP Technical Institute of Sweden in collaboration with Department of plastic Surgery at Sahlgrenska Hospital, release data showing rapid, 5-10 days, epitelialization of  2nd degree induced burn wounds in human skin explants. 

The study, presented today at the European Tissue Repair Society (ETRS) & Wound Healing Society (WHS) Annual meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark shows that salmon roe extract to be used as a key ingredient in Vernex® wound hydrogel, provides faster and more complete wound healing of human skin wounds compared to placebo. The study indicates that hard to heal wounds, with partial necrosis of dermis can be healed faster with Vernex®. 

The study uses explants (skin biopsies) from normal skin, induces 2nd degree burns by a standardized burn device developed by Medibiome AB to the explants and incubate the biopsies with salmon roe extract and controls for up to 10 days. Complete or various degree of reepitelialization of the explant wounds are  subsequently examined in blinded pathological examinations stained with eosin/hematoxylin.
